Lynda Kirby
From paint to pixels, I am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Pittsburgh, PA. I own & operate my own graphic design studio, Kirby Creative, founded in 2006.
Early in my professional career, I designed with markers on paper and then hand constructed press-ready mechanical art (think light table, drafting board, photostats, rubber cement, rubylith!). With the dawn of desktop publishing, the tools of my trade became digitized, so digital art is a natural fit with my skill set. With this medium, I have unlimited tools and can take risks by experimenting with composition, color and texture since it's a non-destructive process and anything can easily be undone.
Alternatively, I find that the traditional mediums that I used earlier in life like drawing, painting and monotype printmaking a deeply satisfying contrast to my digital art life by providing a hands-on, physical, tactile experience.
Regardless of the method, I strive to represent subject matter and concepts truthfully rather than realistically, inviting the viewer to assign their own meaning to the art.
