From pixels to paint, I am a multi-disciplinary artist based in Pittsburgh, PA. I own & operate my own graphic design studio, Kirby Creative, founded in 2006. Early in my professional career, I designed with markers on paper and then hand constructed press-ready mechanical art (think light table, drafting board, photostats, rubber cement, rubylith!). With the dawn of desktop publishing, the tools of my trade became digitized.
My art reflects my history. Digital art is a natural fit with my skill set. With this medium, I have unlimited tools and can take risks by experimenting with composition, color and texture since it's a non-destructive process and anything can easily be undone. Alternatively, I find more traditional mediums like drawing, painting and monotype printmaking a deeply satisfying contrast to my digital art life by providing a hands-on, physical, tactile experience.
Regardless of the method, I strive to represent subject matter and concepts truthfully rather than realistically, inviting the viewer to assign their own meaning to the art.
